I (and my wife) are in a very difficult situation. About three years ago, my wife left her job as
a). she was extremely stressed by the job, and
b). we thought that our life would be less stressful if she could stay home and take care of our (3) kids.
We had some $$$ saved and we thought we could manage for a while. However, we had to use credit cards, and it seems the more we did, the more we had to pay them, and then the more we'd have to use to cover expenses. In Feb 06, we refinanced the house and took out a loan to pay off the credit cards. It seems that these people 'buried' us in this loan with a two year pre-pay penalty and over-valued the house to give us the loan - we owe about $100,000 more than it is worth now.
About a year ago, she began looking for another job but has still not found one. I too have been looking for a second job.
At this time, we're about 100K in credit card debt, and have been unable to them (cards) for about 4 mos.

I'd suggest going to a Consumer Credit Counseling service. They will make arrangements with you creditors for payments you can afford and help you to get back on your feet. If will stop the debt collectors from calling and give you a little peace of mind until you can handle things again.
