I'm very nervous about purchasing our first home. We don't have the best of credits but did get pre approved for 200K on a conventional loan. Would it be more beneficial to go the VA route or through the conventional loan? I live in Minnesota. I'm not very familiar with everything that goes into purchasing a home. I'm learning a little each day as I go through the process. My biggest thing right now is figuring out which route to take. I do know that some people won't take the VA loan. Do you know why? That's a little confusing to me in itself. Thanks in advance for any help!

VA will have the best rate for 100% ffinancing. I would ask your loan officer to see if you qualify for the VA loan and get the payment amount. You'll probably find that is the better option for you.

My best friend did mortgages at the time. She had me do the VA first and after 1year switched me to conventional due to better rates now that I had a history of on time payments on the mortgage. It worked out quite well for me and gave me the extra time to get my FICA scores up. I have never heard of people not taking VA loans I do know not all lender companies have someone certified to process them
